Description:

An evaluation of field experimentation that has resulted from NCHRP Report 493, which recommended the use of a flashing yellow arrow (FYA) indication as the desired permissive indication when using protected/permissive left-turn (PPLT) signal phasing. The primary objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the FYA permissive indication field installations. Safety (crash experience), operations (signal systems, phasing, vehicle flow), and driver behavior will be considered.
